Guide Information

Introduction:

Fishing & Hunting Services was established in October 1993.

As a recreational angler and keen hunter for 34 years, Gerald decided to make a career move away from the agriculture industry to pursue a professional guiding service.  Our aim is to provide a service to visiting sportsmen and women and maintain a positive interest in Gerald's two main passions - fishing and hunting.

Sue has been involved in the Computer and Aviation Industry for 21 years, moving from Wellington City in computers to Wanaka as a Pilot servicing scenic flights to Milford Sound and the surrounding mountainous terrain of the South Island since 1989.  Her passion in the aviation industry has introduced opportunities into marketing and the people industry.

Meeting Gerald in 1994 has introduced the sport of fly fishing to Sue and the art of stalking live game.

This sport of fishing and hunting has embraced the Telford team and Gerald, Sue, Laetitia & Melanie wish to share it with their prospective clients.

The opportunity was acted upon and Fishing & Hunting Services has become a very rewarding enterprise.

The result of years of hands on experiences can now be passed on to anglers and hunters with a wide range of options available.

Emphasis is on quality with regards to both the service provided and of course to the fish and or trophies that our client may wish to pursue.

Gerald, Melanie, Laetitia & Sue Telford welcome you to New Zealand

Dear Gerald and Sue,

Just a brief note to let you know my tahr is happily in his new home in my trophy room. He has a place of honour in between my NZ Stag on one side and my Canadian Caribou on the other.

David Jacobs and his company did a fine museum quality mount and got it delivered to my home a couple of weeks ago. My experience with taxidermists is this was a quick turnaround and delivery especially with the international shipping.

Your newsletter indicates yet another banner year for your clients. Congrats and continued good luck. Greetings to all of your family from both of us.

All the best,
Ed Pryor

Email 10 February 2006 - Hello David Jacobs,

"Kevin Owens here from San Diego.  Just wanted to let you know I've received my fallow deer and red stag trophies, and that everything was in great shape after the long journey to America.  The wooden box used for the transportations was well made and protected everything nicely.  Thank you very much for that.

I also want you to know I am very pleased with the quality of the taxidermy.  The fallow deer in particular looks extremely life-like, and far exceeded my expectations.  So for what it is worth, thank you for a job well done!

Looking forward to doing business with you again in the future.

 With warm regards...Kevin Owens"

Helicopter and Fix Wing Transport:
We use a number of helicopter and fix wing operators for guide work. For reasons of confidentiality and preserving our fishing and hunting locations we cannot tell you here, who these operators are or where they are based. However we can say that all pilots and operators are very experienced, maintain their machinery and are reliable. Personally, Gerald will refuse to use any operator who does not meet his high standards. Prices vary according to distance travelled, usually between $NZ1600.00 to $NZ4000.00 + GST return. Many people prefer to fly on a daily basis, visiting a number of different areas. Of course, plenty of good fishing and hunting exists without having to use the helicopter. It is your choice; we just provide the various options, scenarios and experience under any given set of conditions.

The majority of fishing or hunting is accessed by 4WD or ATV motorbike.
